Simplifying the world of crypto A case study on revamping Nanovest App
Overview
Nanovest is a digital investment platform enabling users in Southeast Asia to invest in US stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies all within a secure, real time environment. The platform includes live market charts, curated investment categories, and financial news to empower retail investors.
As the sole designer, I was responsible for designing the entire experience from scratch including the mobile app, marketing website, and admin dashboard while working closely with developers and product stakeholders.
The Challenge
Nanovest was preparing to scale its product offering with a full revamp. The key challenges were:
Improving the UI/UX without overwhelming first time investors
Balancing feature richness with simplicity
Ensuring trust through secure and clear design patterns
Designing for scalability as user growth was expected to rise quickly
Building a consistent experience across web and mobile
Goals
Enhance usability by redesigning the user interface and user flow
Boost engagement through smart features and an intuitive experience
Increase transaction volume and improve in app conversion
Build trust through clear, secure, and consistent design
Prepare the platform for scale with flexible design systems
My Design Process
1. Discovery & Research
Analyzed the competitive landscape: Binance, Robinhood, eToro
Identified pain points in the old app through heuristic evaluation
Mapped out typical user journeys for first time investors, power users, and crypto traders
Worked closely with product and engineering teams to define key flows and backend dependencies
2. Information Architecture & User Flows
Defined a clean, modular navigation structure
Created user flows for onboarding, trading, KYC, portfolio tracking, and alerts
Separated flows for crypto vs stock to minimize cognitive load
3. Wireframes & Prototyping
Built low-fidelity wireframes to align with stakeholders
Translated these into interactive high fidelity prototypes for testing
Conducted internal testing sessions for usability and edge cases
4. UI Design & Visual System
Designed a clean, minimalistic UI with subtle gradients, soft shadows, and modern typography
Introduced dark mode for trading comfort and user preference
Crafted microinteractions to provide realtime feedback during transactions and navigation
5. Feature Highlights
Real-time stock and crypto price tracking
Customizable alerts and watchlists
Weekly investment insights and curated categories
Social trading feature users can follow top investors
Seamless onboarding + KYC flow
Fully responsive marketing website with landing pages for campaigns
6. Admin Dashboard
Designed a fully featured dark theme dashboard for internal operations
Managers can monitor trades, user activity, asset performance, and manage listings
Prioritized performance insights, alerts, and fraud detection UI patterns
Admin Dashboard
Created s stunning dark theme for the admin dashboard. From this the manager can access all the data regarding crypto , exhcnage & all other features.
Results
The redesigned Nanovest app and platform achieved:
+40% increase in user engagement (based on session time and repeat usage)
+35% increase in completed transactions within 2 months of launch
Reduced onboarding drop off by 28% through streamlined flows
Significant boost in trust measured through in app feedback and App Store reviews
Platform scaled to handle 3x traffic post-launch with no UX regressions
Key Learnings
Trust is the core currency in fintech UX must communicate safety at every step
Designing for first time and advanced users simultaneously requires careful prioritization and progressive disclosure
Working solo across mobile, web, and admin systems sharpened my design system thinking and attention to scalability
